CFO Board Position - Chair

Mr. Lee was Executive Director for 19 years of People's Regional Opportunity Program (PROP), a community action agency in Portland, Maine. Grant served as President of the Maine Community Action Association and was an active member of the Greater Portland Council of Government's Executive Committee during his tenure at PROP. He was the Executive Director of Child and Family Opportunities, Inc. (CFO) for 10 years, and is the proud father of two CFO graduates!

Elizabeth Ehrlenbach will retire from her position as Principal and former teacher at the Surry Elementary School in June of 2010. She has served on the CFO Board for more than 30 years. Her grandson was among the first three to "graduate" after 5 years of childcare at the Ellsworth Center. Her granddaughter attends the program now.

Mary Beth holds an AB from Vassar College and an MLS from the University of Maryland. Mary Beth worked at Duke University Press, Duke Sociology Department, Montgomery County schools, and as children's librarian in the DC Public Library and the Ellsworth Public Library. She has extensive board experience and has served on a diversity of boards including the following, League of Women Voters, Friends of the Library, Meals on Wheels, Williston Northampton School, Alumni/ae Program Council, and the Downeast Senior College.
Mary Beth is married with four children. Her volunteer work now includes work with the Dorcas Library, Union Congregation Church of Hancock, and the Friends of Taunton Bay.

Mr. Kumiega owns and operates a small construction company on Deer Isle, doing new construction, renovations, and light commercial work.
Mr. Kumiega grew up in Western Massachsets. After high school he mixed work with part time college classes. He met and married a Mainer, and moved to Maine almost 15 years ago. The family is raising 2 kids, and the oldest, now a high school junior, is a Head Start graduate.
Mr. Kumiega has been involved with CFO in many ways. He is the parent of a former Head Start student, and was involved in the Parent Policy Council of CFO. He is currently CFO board chair. Mr. Kumiega is also serving his 3rd term as a member of the Deer Isle-Stonington school board, and belongs to the Deer Island Recreation Board.

Ann Sargent Slayton

Annie Sargent Slayton spent most of her childhood overseas, but her family is originally from Hancock County and has lived in the area since 1988. She has a B.A. from Bowdoin College. Annie settled into a career in adult education over 20 years ago. She believes in the potential of every person and works to support the staff at Sumner Adult Education to create a program that gives everyone the tools they need to reach their life goals. Ann lives in Steuben with her husband and two children. She loves spending time with her children, learning, cooking and making jewelry, and serving her community. She is a Sunday school teacher in Milbridge, serves on the board of Child and Family Opportunities, Women's Health Resource Library and volunteers in other community organizations. She has tremendous admiration for the families and staff at CFO. Over the last twenty years she has had opportunities to work with Head Start programs. She greatly values the important role CFO plays in sustaining families and communities.
Nicholas Henry

Mr. Henry grew up in Penobscot and attended George Stevens Academy in Blue Hill. After graduating from GSA, he attended Husson College in Bangor. Mr. Henry studied accounting and business at Husson and graduated in May 2008 with degrees in each.
After graduating college, Mr. Henry purchased a home in Penobscot and began working for Horton, McFarland & Veysey, LLC in Ellsworth where he is currently employed. In addition to being a member of the Board of Directors for CFO, Mr. Henry is also on the Town of Penobscot Finance Committee.
