Child and Family Opportunities, Inc.
of Ellsworth is now accepting applications for it's 2002/2003 Head
Start program. CFO's Head Start programs for 3-5 year olds are
available at centers located in the following communities Ellsworth,
Bucksport, Harrington, Lubec, Calais, Machias, Jonesport, Sullivan,
Stonington.
Early Head Start, for infants and
toddlers aged 6 weeks to 3 years, is currently offered at Jonesport
and is opening in Machias in September, 2002 and to Ellsworth in early
2003. Parents are encouraged to make applications for both Machias
and Ellsworth now as it is expected that the infant and toddler slots
will fill quickly at both sites.
Another Head Start/Early Head Start
option available in Hancock County is HomeStart. This program offers
the comprehensive services of Head Start in small, multi-age family
child care home settings. Currently CFO's HomeStart providers are
Esther Berry, The Berry Patch in Bucksport; Nicola Fredericks,
Cadippidars and Flutterbyes in Ellsworth; and Patti Gray, Pat's Place
in Trenton and Kelly Brown, M & M Day Care in Lamoine. Currently
HomeStart slots are for families needing full-day, full-year child
care.
Centers in Ellsworth, Jonesport,
Machias and at the Calais Community Child Care (formerly Ron Renaud
Child Care) in Calais offer full day, full year child care services in
addition to the Head Start program. Child care subsidies are available
for families that meet the eligibility requirements.
Comprehensive Head Start services
include health screenings, nutrition assessments, age appropriate
curriculum and parent education and training. Helping families access
other social service agencies is also an important component of the
program. Nutritious meals and snacks are included in the program.
Applications for all programs are
