ELLSWORTH—Child and Family Opportunities has announced that Bar
Harbor Banking and Trust Co. has donated $10,000 for its new
Early Care and Education Center located on 18 Avery Lane.
The
$1.9-million facility is expected to open June 2 and will house
the agency’s Head Start program, educational child care
programs, and its administrative offices.
“This
donation not only helps us to meet our fundraising goal,”
according to the agency’s board chair, Cara Guerrieri, “it also
makes a wonderful statement that the Ellsworth business
community is looking to support its growing workforce by
investing in quality child care programming.”
Guerrieri
also noted that the child care agency and Bar Harbor Banking and
Trust have been working in partnership to bring the municipal
water and sewer lines to Avery Lane.
The
12,000-square-foot building will have six early care and
education classrooms designed to serve children ages 6 weeks to
5 years.
In addition
to the indoor classrooms, the center will have two large
playgrounds and a full service kitchen where the children’s
meals and snacks will be prepared. The administrative wing will
have office space for the agency’s 20 administrative staff as
well as a full-service conference room.
Construction of the facility is nearing completion. Architect is
Stewart Brecher of Bar Harbor. Building contractor is P.M. McKay of
Bangor.
