Robert
Minott, owner of Coastal Drilling and Blasting Inc.,
recently hand-delivered a donation of $1,500 to Child and
Family Opportunities’ Capital Campaign. Coastal Drilling
and Blasting has employed a CFO child care alumnus, Liam
McSweeney, a Lamoine resident and college student at
American University in Washington D.C. who works for the
company during his summer breaks from school.
Minott spent
time touring CFO’s Early Child Care and Education Center
on Avery Lane in Ellsworth and met with Executive
Director, Jeanie Mills to hear about the services being
offered at the state of the art facility. According to
Mills, “Our first ever Capital Campaign has helped us
create this inviting space for children and families in
the greater Ellsworth area. It is friends like Bob that
have helped us to realize our dream of a permanent home
for our child care programs and administrative offices.”
The Board of Directors conducted the Capital Campaign to
help put the finishing touches on the project that is
funded through Union Trust Bank, USDA, and the federal
Head Start program.
The 12,000
square foot structure, designed by Stewart Brecher,
Architect of Bar Harbor, houses six early child care and
education classrooms and an administrative office wing.
The early care and education classrooms are designed for
children ages 6 weeks to 5 years. Three classrooms are
designed for up to 24 infants and toddlers, while the
other three classrooms are designed for up to 60
preschoolers. The administrative wing houses the agency’s
20 year round employees. A full playground, kitchen and
conference room are included. The Holt Conference Room is
used extensively for training events for area child care
providers, staff and parents.
